Letter : to Elias S. Hawly [sic], Dennis Bowen, William Taber, 1848 Jan. 1.

Written in response to a request by Hawley, Bowen, and Taber, members of the Committee on Local History of the Young Mens' Association, for materials relating to the early history of Buffalo, Western New York, or the Niagara Frontier. Goodell describes the early settlements of Black Rock, Buffalo, Erie, Pa., Cleveland, and Detroit, and the trails and roads of the country around Lake Erie.

Born in Moreau, Saratoga County, N.Y., 28 Oct. 1812; graduated from Union College in 1833. Came to Buffalo in 1833, where he taught school, practiced law, and served as superintendent of schools in 1844, 1846, and 1847.
